Searching for a suitable body to install in the Frank bunker for some months now, I was pleased when Lara Lewis emailed me a resume the other week.
Soon to finish her studies at King’s Journalism School, the native Nova Scotian wished to stay in the province for as long as possible, and she saw Frank as a possible way to achieve that.

Sixteen years ago this month, late one Saturday night, the phone rang at whatever dive I happened to be holed up in at the time.
In the background I could hear the raspy intonation of Kris Kristofferson, “...he’s a poet, and he’s a picker, he’s a prophet, he’s a pusher, he’s pilgrim and a preacher, and a problem when he’s stoned...”
Man, don’t you wish sometimes that two people could meet for a little chew, over a cold one, or two, and you could sit in on the conclave just listening, watching. Absorbing.
The late Harry Flemming and the late Casey Stengel? Now, that would be a match-up for the ages.
I love “characters.” I always have. They make the world go round.
